Friday
10th - Extra Time Café, Broadbridge Heath, Horsham
Hi guys, great gig last weekend at the
Rock Asylum. Mark R. (14th August 2001)
Friday
24th - The Gun Tavern, Croydon
Hey people. Just
wanted to say wahey re: the gig you did at the Gun Tavern. We've seen
Atomic Blondie a couple of times, and although they look the part (wigs
et al), they only stick to the hits and dig no deeper. Also apologies
for our Luke, who snoozed through most of your gig, despite being right
down front. I (rob) was the one who kept waking him. So once again bravo.
I speshlee enjoyed top of the Pops. I'd sat down only that afternoon and
worked out the chords to that, weird huh. Roberto. (1st September 2001)
Just
a quick E-mail to thank you for a brilliant evenings entertainment at
the Gun last Friday. I'm the bloke you spoke to afterwards. I'm not kidding-
you were absolutely brilliant!- and you didn't half cheer up my weekend.
Thanks! I look forward to meeting you again! Cheers. Keep X-Offending!
Garth. (6th September 2001)
Dear
Plastic Letters, please tell your bass player to grow up and get a proper
job, at his age he should be gardening at home not poncing around in seedy
pubs pretending to be a pop star, loved the show, keep on rocking ! love
PV xxxxxx (1st October 2001)
- - - Top e-mail!!! His bad back can't cope with the gardening these
days tho...and it messes up his hair anyway! Cheers Paul, hope you're
well, let us know if they want us "up north", and if we're in
Europe, we'll fly straight back!!!!!!! - Lisa & Martin. Incidentally,
Paul who wrote this message was the drummer in the band 'Big Red Gun',
that Bruce used to play with.

Saturday
8th - Beacon Court Tavern, Gillingham
Dear
Plastic Letters, Absolutely
brilliant night. Expected to see the Sussex Pistols (who couldn't make
it) and was totally blown away by Plastic Letters instead!!! You sounded
just like Blondie, especially the vocals and drums. Excellent stuff. Will
definitely come and see you again. John C (12th September 2001).
Really
enjoyed the gig. The band was really tight and had a great sound. It reminded
me of when the songs first came out in the late 70s - I never got to see
Blondie then, but seeing Plastic Letters the other night brought it all
back! Look forward to the next gig. Roger (11th September 2001)
- - - Thanks Roger, your CD is in the post.
Sunday 30th - Cock & Bull, Uckfield
Just had to send an e-mail to say I
really enjoyed last night's gig, so much that as you know I bought your
CD as well!!!!! I was very impressed with the overall sound, especially
being only a four-piece, but it sounded great - as does the CD. When are
you next playing at the Cock and Bull? See you soon, Karen S
(1st October 2001) -
- - Thanks Karen. You'll be pleased to know that we're performing again
at the Cock & Bull in Uckfield on Sunday 3rd March 2002. If you can't
wait that long, check out our other dates in the GIGS
section.

No
reviews this month for a very good reason...No gigs! Dates were available,
but owing to holidays and other commitments, October has been given a
wide swerve this year.

Saturday
24th - The Cartoon, Croydon
Dear Plastic Letters, hi great gig last
nite ,god you guys played for ages,..this is a bit of a begging letter,if
you guys ever need a support band in Kent, Essex or just about any where
please think of us.
We will be very grateful.
Any way. Hope to hear from you soon ..jamie @potvin..cheers (25th
November 2001)
Dear
Plastic Letters, had a great nite at the cartoon, thanx to great Southern
hospitality (and they sold Boddingtons!) Golly rarely gets out of the
secure home especially for a long weekend so it was pleasing for all concerned
when you kept him interested enough to stop him taking his clothes off
and dancing around while setting fire to his clothes. Nice to hear that
you mentioning Scunthorpe got the loudest cheer of the night. We also
thought the support band were cock-on, although their music is a bit young
for us old gits they were extremely tight. We saw the Damned (real ones
NOT tribute) the night before your gig and they were back on top form,
it was worth the visit and all parties concerned had a cracking time.
You have inspired me and Golly to start playing again, so we are forming
a tribute band, but are not sure who to cover , maybe "Right said
Fred". Anyway got to go - see ya soon PV, Golly xxxx (30th
November 2001)

Saturday
8th - The Gun, Croydon
The cosy pub trappings of the Gun Tavern's
back room finds the UK's finest Blondie tribute band back for more. And
it's a very different gig to the one they played in the summer. It was
one of the hottest days of the year last time round, and although tonight
is bitter cold, inside the Tavern, like I said, its cosy. The main difference
this time round is the length of the set. Last time Annalisa and her boys
played just about every Blondie song bar Heart of Glass, a dream come
true for every hardcore Blondie fan, a wet dream come true for every hardcore
Blondie nerd. Tonight though, they concern themselves only with the hits
and play a set for the casual Blondie fan, and what's more, they've learnt
how to play Heart of Glass.
The
musicianship can not be faulted, particularly impressive is Martin's drumming.
Although the boys have not gone to as much trouble to look like Blondie
as other acts have, their sound is spot on, minus the fact there is no
keyboard. Guitarist whatsisname compensates for this quite amicably however.
It's hard to criticise the very lovely Annalisa who recreates Deborah's
vocals with the necessary volume, pitch and sexiness. She does seem to
smile a lot, and who can blame her, she is clearly having a great time.
If she tapped into her inner dominatrix though, she could make the willing
men gathered to see her squirm. Deborah would be proud and the crowd would
love it. Blondie's hits exhausted, Annalisa goes Siouxie with Dear Prudence
and finishes with Top of the Pops by the Rezillos. Both are apt and go
down a storm.
The one bogus thing about tonight is the support. Not the two slapheads
on the decks, they combine high comedy with great tunes. It's Raw Fish,
one man and his acoustic guitar. I know Plastic Letters are fond of him,
but his choice of songs is a worry. He chooses songs that start with one
guitar and a voice: American Pie, Rock n Roll Suicide, Exit Music to a
Film. By the middle of these songs however, the rest of a band should
join in and make a song out of them. Raw Fish however, probably gets so
into the song that by this point he is hearing the rest of a band, whereas
his audience are watching him sing 'and you can laugh a spineless laugh',
and try desperately not to laugh themselves. Or just do.
Still, not enough to spoil the glory achieved by Plastic Letters, a band
I intend to go and see as often as possible.
ItchyRob.

Dear Lisa,
well done on last night. I'm afraid I had far too much to drink (Luke's
fault) and I think I was dancing about like an idiot and generally lowering
the tone. I went to see three metal bands on Thursday at the Cartoon and
went to watch football at a pub on Wednesday and I reckon over the last
three days I've consumed 51 pints of stella artois. Needless to say my
entire body is rebelling against me. The vegan in me and the red blooded
male in me done battle over what you was wearing on stage. Red blooded
won. Hurrah. Let me know when the T-shirts are available cos I'm definetely
going to have one. Hang loose, see on the next flip of the wave. PS, thanks
so much for the dedication, it made me blush like a little soldier.
(Roberto)
- - > Hi Rob, Thanks for
the email. Glad you enjoyed the gig. Did you get the mouse mat? The T-shirts
are already available. We had them with us the other night. See you at
The Gun on the 1st June? Love Lisa. x
Dear Plastics,
I thoroughly enjoyed the gig last night and cheers once again for the
use of your gear. I especially enjoyed the Rezillos song at the end. How
about a couple of Plasmatics numbers to add to your set for the future?
I really like the one that goes "Sometimes I... feel it" (that
slow one). I think you'd do a good job on that one. Thanks again for a
great night,
Peter.

Peter, Yeh we enjoyed the whole nite too! Martin thinks your attitude
is great. We would definitely like to do some more gigs with you guys.

Hi
Folks!
I just had a look at your website.....looks good. I see you played the
Baths Hall recently and I heard it went very well. I'm the manager of
Hull-based Blondie tribute band, Heart of Glass, and thought I would pass
on the regards of my band and wish you all well.
Best regards, James.

Dear
Plastic Letters,
Just to say how much we enjoyed your gig. I was with my mate Mark. He
asked Lisa if she was going to do stuff from the first two albums. He
had a Freddie Ljunberg haircut! He was also sick the next day from too
much alcohol!
Thanks again for a great evening.
Cheers....Greg.
