Marine
Parade Steps

Liquitex
on canvas
1265mm x 762mm
Based on a photograph taken from an unusual angle at the bottom of a flight of steps in Brighton’s Marine Parade.
With the details of the foliage, stonework and shapes of individual steps removed, all that is left are the angular shapes formed by the rake of the steps and the shadows and silhouette-like forms of the railings.
Scenes with particularly strong perspective elements are most effective in drawing the observer into the picture; ‘Hayward Gallery’ is a good example of this.
