Gardner
Centre Rear View
- 1982
Liquitex
on canvas - 759mm x 1266mm
Certainly an unusual view of the Gardner Centre. There are no details distracting the viewer’s attention away from the structural forms and shadows, only the uneven line of the grass verge which boldly and defiantly cuts across the whole image, clashing with the central wall of brick depicted in green’s opposite colour of rich scarlet.
This scene naturally lends itself to this kind of treatment without much alteration by the artist. Another ‘naturally-abstract’ scene is depicted in the painting ‘Chemistry Building’.
